Nick Vujicic: What can I complain about?

I've got a flat tire. I don't know how I'm going to pay my taxes. Heck, I don't know how I'm going to pay my credit card. I've had a death in my family. I'm getting a divorce. I'm sick. I've lost my job. "I thought I was abused because I had no shoes until a met a man who had no feet." I am a firm believer that every once in a while, all of us should look down, that is, look upon the less fortunate. Yes, we may be having a rough patch but there are others who are having it far, far worse than us.

Tetra-amelia is a word made up of two Greek words: "tetra" meaning four and "amelia" referring to the failure of an arm or leg to develop before birth. This rare disorder is characterized by an absence of all four limbs.

Nicholas James Vujicic, born 4 December 1982, was born with Tetra-amelia; he has no arms and no legs. "Nick", as he is called, was the eldest son of a Croatian family living in Brisbane, Australia. He was born limbless although has two feet, both toeless except for two toes on one foot. Other than this disability, he was born perfectly healthy.

His story is remarkable in how such a person could manage in a world where the rest of us contend with everyday life with arms and legs. According to Wikipedia: He learned to write using the two toes on his left foot with a special grip that slid onto his big toe. He learned to use a computer and type using the "heel and toe" method. He learned to throw tennis balls, play drum pedals, get himself a glass of water, comb his hair, brush his teeth, answer the phone and shave.

Somewhere along the way, Nick realized that he could inspire others. At the age of seventeen he started a non-profit organisation called Life Without Limbs and became a motivational speaker as well as a preacher.

my blog: Poor Me
Jacqueline Saburido, born in 1978 in Venezuela, went to the United States in 1999 to study English. [Her] vehicle was hit by an SUV driven by a man... who was drunk. ... Jacqueline was trapped in the car, one foot stuck underneath his seat. The car caught fire and Jacqueline suffered burns over 60% of her body. The consequence of this tragic accident, Jacqueline lost all the fingers of both hands, hair, ears, nose, lips, eyelid of the left eye and most of her sight. Since the accident she has had more than 50 surgeries and supposedly, others will follow.
