Marina and The Diamonds: Teen Idle

I wanna be a bottle blonde
I don't know why but I feel conned
I wanna be an idle teen
I wish I hadn't been so clean
I wanna stay inside all day
I want the world to go away
I want blood, guts, and chocolate cake
I wanna be a real fake

Yeah, I wish I'd been, I wish I'd been, a teen, teen idle
Wish I'd been a prom queen, fighting for the title
Instead of being sixteen, I'm burning up a bible
Feeling super! super! super! suicidal
The wasted years
The wasted youth
The pretty lies
The ugly truth
And the day has come where I have died
Only to find, I've come alive
I wanna be a virgin pure
A 21st century whore
I want back my virginity
So I can feel infinity
I wanna drink until I ache
I wanna make a big mistake
I want blood, guts, and angel cake
I'm gonna puke it anyway

Yeah, I wish I'd been, I wish I'd been, a teen, teen idle
Wish I'd been a prom queen, fighting for the title
Instead of being sixteen, I'm burning up a bible
Feeling super! super! super! suicidal
The wasted years
The wasted youth
The pretty lies
The ugly truth
And the day has come where I have died
Only to find, I've come alive
Come alive, I've come alive
Oh oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh oh
Oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh oh
I wish I wasn't such a narcissist
I wish I didn't really kiss
The mirror when I'm on my own
Oh God, I'm gonna die alone
Adolescence didn't make sense
The little loss of innocence
The ugliness of being a fool
Ain't youth meant to be beautiful?

Yeah, I wish I'd been, I wish I'd been, a teen, teen idle
Wish I'd been a prom queen, fighting for the title
Instead of being sixteen, I'm burning up a bible
Feeling super! super! super! suicidal
The wasted years
The wasted youth
The pretty lies
The ugly truth
And the day has come where I have died
Only to find, I've come alive
Only to find, I've come alive
Only to find, I've come alive
Oh, alive
(Feeling super! super! super!)
(Feeling super! super! super!)
(Feeling super! super! super!)
Oh, alive

Wikipedia: Teen Idle
"Teen Idle" is a song by Welsh singer-songwriter Marina and the Diamonds, taken from her second studio album, Electra Heart. Marina talked about this song in an interview: "I originally got the idea for the song seeing a jumper at a fashion show that had huge holes on it with ‘Teen Idle’ emblazoned across the front. Lyrically, it’s a strange song as it crosses polar opposite themes – innocence and darkness. I had waited a long time to write that song and it helped me acknowledge some experiences that I’d had in my teenage years. Ages 16-20 were kind of blackout years for me- Like I didn’t even live them or they didn’t belong to my life. I don’t really remember them. It’s most definitely one of my fan base’s favorite songs on ‘Electra Heart’. I’m really proud of it. The nicest thing about being an artist is realizing that a feeling or experience you had that you always thought was really obscure or embarrassing, is in fact very common, and that we all deal with pretty much the same stuff in one way or another." AllMusic gave a pick to the song along with "Primadonna" and "Bubblegum Bitch", calling it a 'Lana Del Rey-inspired' track.

Wikipedia: Electra Heart
Electra Heart is the second studio album by Welsh recording artist Marina and the Diamonds. It was released on 27 April 2012 by 679 Artists and Atlantic Records.

Wikipedia: Marina and the Diamonds
Marina Lambrini Diamandis (born 10 October 1985), also known by stage name Marina and the Diamonds (sometimes stylised as Marina & the Diamonds), is a Welsh singer-songwriter. She rose to fame after reaching number two on the BBC Sound of 2010 poll list, coming second to Ellie Goulding. After releasing one private EP, Diamandis released her second extended play, The Crown Jewels EP, with help from Neon Gold Records, in 2009. Now signed to 679 Recordings, she released her debut full length studio album, The Family Jewels, followed by her third extended play, The American Jewels EP, in 2010. In 2011, Diamandis announced that she was working on her second album, Electra Heart, which was released in April 2012 and went to No. 1 in the UK and Ireland.

Her stage name, "Marina and the Diamonds", consists of Diamandis' first name and the translation of her surname, which means "Diamonds" in Greek. According to her, "The Diamonds" are not her backing band, but her fans.

Personal Notes
When I first heard this then read through the lyrics I said, "Holy cow, talk about teenage angst."
