OMG! I'm posting cat videos!!!

*facepalm groan* I have now officially run out of things to write about. If there's one thing stuck in the back of my mind as representative of the height of ridiculousness and uselessness on the Net, it is the collective we's penchant for posting personal videos of the most trivial aspects of their daily lives. Yes, it may be important to you but that doesn't necessarily translate into something of interest for the rest of us. And yet, sometimes the most trivial goes viral and is raised to the heights of Internet sensation. As Andy Warhol so astutely pointed out, "In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes."

"Owners of dogs will have noticed that, if you provide them with food and water and shelter and affection, they will think you are god. Whereas owners of cats are compelled to realize that, if you provide them with food and water and shelter and affection, they draw the conclusion that they are gods."
― Christopher Hitchens, The Portable Atheist: Essential Readings for the Nonbeliever

I grew up with cats. As an adult, I had my turn with dogs. Mr. Hitchens, and others who have made the same observation, seem to spot on with our interpretation of the attitude of these animals towards us. I consider both to be unique experiences, amusing in their own right, which seem to foster that parental instinct in the gruffest of personalities. I have heard it said that having a pet can be psychologically beneficial for a human being. Maybe we lose our reason for getting out of bed in the morning but we'll do it for somebody else or for a pet.

The following video cracked me up. Cats seem to have that hell with you attitude while dogs are more like the child who never grows up. Cats are independent while dogs are dependent. Both a unique experience, as I said, and both with their amusing moments.

my blog: My 15 Minutes - Oct 4/2010
As I have perused the paper and channel surfed over the past couple of years, looking at the various people and the circumstances which have warranted the attention of the public, I have wondered just what my 15 minutes will be. I think of examples of wonderful moments: person saves cat from tree; Good Samaritan stops to aid injured person; somebody does something to raise money for charity; these are the type of things one would be proud of. There are also examples of bad moments: drunk driver mows down pedestrian; person sets building on fire; police capture abusive husband who has battered his wife and kids. These are the life altering events you want to stay away from as far as possible.
